Aim high at Highfield

About Us

Lancashire’s Number One Independent Preparatory School - The Sunday Times

Highfield Priory School is an independent co-educational day school for children from the age of two to eleven years. We are situated in the Fulwood area of Preston, within easy distance of the M6 which makes us handy for parents on their daily commute. The school is a real haven of tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of the busy city. We enjoy nine acres of grounds, our own conservation area and outdoor classroom.

Head’s Welcome

At Highfield, we focus on the education of the whole person. A Highfield pupil is a happy, intelligent and confident child who is aware of and interested in the wider world and their local community. The wealth of opportunity open to our pupils encourages an active mind, an active body and a true desire to aim high in all that they do in life.

At Highfield Priory, we are proud of our long history of academic excellence. Its National Curriculum Test results have placed it, for the last thirteen years, in the top thirty Preparatory schools in England and in the top ten for the last six years (The Sunday Times 2022). In the latest rankings, Highfield Priory was Fifth equal in England and First in the North West in The Sunday Times Top 100 Independent Prep Schools.

As a family prep school, we nurture excellence and promote individual character, leading to outstanding outcomes. From Maths to Music, Reading to Rugby, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) to Public Speaking, Elocution and Drama (HPSED), we aim high for each and every one of our pupils – no matter where their strengths lie.

Why Highfield?

Our Values

Highfield Priory School encourages and inspires its children to aim high in all that they do, not only with regard to academic success but also with regard to behaviour, self-respect, self-discipline and good manners. We are committed to helping our children to prepare for their future.

Outstanding Academic Outcomes

Children are prepared for their first choice of senior school which the majority of our children achieve. Each year, a number of children are offered scholarships including the highest available for academic performance, musical or sporting ability. A high percentage of children gain a place at Grammar School from outside the catchment area. Children at Highfield continue to aim high year on year.

Developing Individual Character

Teaching our children how to overcome difficult situations, with the support of both the school staff and parents, builds resilience and allows our pupils to move forward, equipped with the skills to cope with whatever life presents to them. From Highfield Heights which aims to build a child’s strength and individuality, to our public speaking programme (HPSED), to our team building activity days and Forest School sessions, our children spend focused time building confidence and inner strength on a daily basis.

Developing Extensive Extra-Curricular Programme

At Highfield we place a large emphasis on our extra-curricular activities. We believe extra-curricular education has a key role to play in the development of the whole child academically, socially and emotionally. The wide variety of activities we provide throughout the week offers something for every child to participate in.

Wrap-Around Care

We know that parents often work long hours and need care for their children before and after the normal school day. Highfield, therefore, runs a system of before school and after school care during term time as well as a holiday club. The intention is to ensure that there is care, comfort and continuity at school when many parents have to work.

Testimonials

The well-planned and engaging activities enable pupils to grow in confidence and develop their leadership and communication skills.

ISI Inspection Report, 2023

The children benefit from a genuine sense of calm that permeates the setting, enabling them to move freely between activities without causing concern for their peers.

ISI Inspection Report, 2023

I believe the school delivers a first class education and growth opportunities and it is value for money.
